Taking care of your inner child

Sadly, I often see clients who have been physically and/or mentally abused by those who should have been loving and protective of them. Some of these children remain ‘frozen in time’ in the unconscious mind and this can affect the emotions and behaviour of the person in adulthood.
You may have used the phrase’ ‘They threw all their toys out of the pram’ – referring to an adult who has been behaving like a small child.
Or you may find yourself inexplicably scared in certain situations around certain types of people.
You might struggle in social situations and/or find it difficult to make friends as an adult.
You might find it hard to trust certain groups of people.
These are just a few examples of how a wounded, scared, lonely inner child can affect us in adulthood. In hypnosis we can work gently with the inner child (or inner children!) and help them to re-integrate with the adult mind.
The first step for this is to imagine yourself as a small child and ask yourself ‘What do they need today?’
I recently found a box of old photos of myself as a child this morning. You may be forgiven for thinking that the first one is of Winston Churchill as a small boy!

What mood is this? Looks like someone has been woken up too early and been asked to look their best on a photo! Maybe she needs some sleep.

Do they need to eat something nutritious? (with ketchup obviously)

Maybe its time to have some fun and explore a new environment. And consider your fashion choices.

Maybe they need to find a hobby that they are passionate about (second from the right – still got that fringe!)

Or sometimes it’s good to just chill out with people who you love and trust. (Always trust a Yorkshire man who wears his cap, shoes and socks on the beach!)
When you check in regularly with your inner child you find new insights into your own needs and emotions.
This is a light-hearted glimpse into a very powerful, healing protocol.
