Taking care of your inner child

Sadly, I often see clients who have been physically and/or mentally abused by those who should have been loving and protective of them. Some of these children remain ‘frozen in time’ in the unconscious mind and this can affect the emotions and behaviour of the person in adulthood.

You may have used the phrase’ ‘They threw all their toys out of the pram’ – referring to an adult who has been behaving like a small child.

Or you may find yourself inexplicably scared in certain situations around certain types of people.

You might struggle in social situations and/or find it difficult to make friends as an adult.

You might find it hard to trust certain groups of people.

These are just a few examples of how a wounded, scared, lonely inner child can affect us in adulthood. In hypnosis we can work gently with the inner child (or inner children!) and help them to re-integrate with the adult mind.

The first step for this is to imagine yourself as a small child and ask yourself ‘What do they need today?’

I recently found a box of old photos of myself as a child this morning. You may be forgiven for thinking that the first one is of Winston Churchill as a small boy!

What mood is this? Looks like someone has been woken up too early and been asked to look their best on a photo! Maybe she needs some sleep.

Do they need to eat something nutritious? (with ketchup obviously)

Maybe its time to have some fun and explore a new environment. And consider your fashion choices.

Maybe they need to find a hobby that they are passionate about (second from the right – still got that fringe!)

Or sometimes it’s good to just chill out with people who you love and trust. (Always trust a Yorkshire man who wears his cap, shoes and socks on the beach!)

When you check in regularly with your inner child you find new insights into your own needs and emotions.

This is a light-hearted glimpse into a very powerful, healing protocol.

Losing weight is a significant achievement, especially if you’ve used a weight loss drug to help you reach your goals. However, many people find that maintaining their new weight can be just as challenging—if not more so—than losing it in the first place. This is where hypnotherapy can play a valuable role in supporting long-term success. Understanding the Challenge of Weight Maintenance After completing a course of weight loss medication, it’s common to worry about regaining the weight. The body’s natural tendency is to return to its previous set point, and old habits can easily creep back in. While weight loss drugs can help you shed the kilos, they don’t always address the underlying behaviours and thought patterns that contributed to weight gain in the first place. What Is Hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that utilises guided relaxation and focused attention to facilitate positive changes at a subconscious level. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not about losing control or being put to sleep. Instead, it’s a gentle and effective way to reprogramme your mind, making it easier to adopt healthier habits and attitudes. In recent years, hypnotherapy has gained recognition as a powerful tool for personal transformation and healing. While often misunderstood, this therapeutic technique can offer a wide range of benefits for individuals seeking to improve their mental and physical well-being. In this blog post, we’ll explore the advantages of hypnotherapy and how it can unlock the potential within each of us. Understanding Hypnotherapy Before delving into the benefits, it’s essential to understand what hypnotherapy is. At its core, hypnotherapy is a type of complementary therapy that uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness, often referred to as a trance. This altered state enables individuals to explore thoughts, feelings, and memories that may be hidden from their conscious awareness. A trained hypnotherapist guides clients through this process, helping them address various issues such as stress, anxiety, phobias, and even chronic pain. By tapping into the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy can facilitate profound personal change. Mental Health Benefits Reducing Anxiety and Stress : Hypnotherapy is known for its ability to reduce anxiety and stress. By promoting relaxation and addressing the root causes of these feelings, individuals can achieve a greater sense of calm and balance in their lives. Overcoming Phobias : Many people suffer from irrational fears or phobias that can significantly impact their quality of life. Hypnotherapy can help alter the subconscious triggers associated with these fears, allowing individuals to face their fears with confidence. Improving Sleep Quality : Insomnia and other sleep disorders are often linked to stress and anxiety. Hypnotherapy can help individuals relax and develop healthier sleep patterns, leading to more restful nights and increased daytime energy. Boosting Self-Esteem and Confidence : By altering negative thought patterns and reinforcing positive beliefs, hypnotherapy can enhance self-esteem and boost confidence. This can lead to improved performance in various aspects of life, from personal relationships to career pursuits. Physical Health Benefits Managing Chronic Pain : Hypnotherapy is increasingly used as a complementary treatment for managing chronic pain. By altering the perception of pain and teaching relaxation techniques, individuals can experience significant relief and improved quality of life. Supporting Weight Loss : For those struggling with weight management, hypnotherapy can help identify and alter unhealthy eating patterns. By addressing emotional triggers and cultivating a healthier mindset, individuals can achieve and maintain sustainable weight loss. Quitting Smoking : Many people turn to hypnotherapy as a method for quitting smoking. By targeting the subconscious associations with smoking and reinforcing the desire for a healthier lifestyle, hypnotherapy can increase the likelihood of successfully quitting. Enhancing Personal Growth Increasing Focus and Concentration : Hypnotherapy can enhance mental clarity and focus, making it a valuable tool for students and professionals alike. By training the mind to concentrate more effectively, individuals can achieve their goals with greater efficiency. Facilitating Personal Insight : For those on a journey of self-discovery, hypnotherapy can provide valuable insights into one’s thoughts and behaviours. This increased self-awareness can lead to personal growth and a deeper understanding of oneself. Encouraging Positive Behavioural Changes : Whether it’s breaking bad habits or adopting new, healthier ones, hypnotherapy can be a catalyst for positive change. By working with the subconscious mind, individuals can achieve lasting transformation. Conclusion Hypnotherapy offers a multitude of benefits, from alleviating anxiety and improving sleep to managing chronic pain and supporting personal growth. By harnessing the power of the subconscious mind, this therapeutic technique can unlock the potential within each individual, leading to a healthier and more fulfilling life. Whether you’re seeking relief from a specific issue or exploring ways to enhance your well-being, hypnotherapy could be the key to unlocking a brighter future.
